Figure 1.
Using the Chord Editor you can choose a chord and its arrangement. The editor
suggests only chords that obey the
logic of the functional movement.
Also the editor suggests only the chord arrangements for each chord that are in
accord with the voice-leading
rules.
A panel of a selected chord is located in the middle part of the editor (see
number on Figure 1).
Small rectangles represent
the arrangements of
the selected chord. The smallest rectangle (see number
on Figure 1) corresponds
to the 'tight' chord arrangement.
The largest rectangle (see number
on Figure 1) corresponds to
the 'wide' chord arrangement.
The rectangle with the middle size (see number
on Figure 1) corresponds
to the 'mixed' chord arrangement.
Each chord has own tab (see number
on Figure 1) that adjoins to
the right side of the chord panel. The colour of the tab points to the name of a
chord in the mode. The chords which have a blue background (various tints of blue)
belong to the Tonic group
of chords. The chords which have a green background (various tints of green) belong
to the Subdominant group
of chords. If a chord tab has the red background (various tints the red) then it
means that the chord belongs to
the Dominant group. To
indicate the name of the chord on the tab, the Chord Editor uses the notation accepted
in harmony theory. The first in the notation is the scale degree that the chord
is built from. Digits after the scale degree number define
the chord type. Usually
the guitar chord notation is used in music software. The Chord Editor uses the guitar
chord notation to indicate the names of the chords in the column on the right of
the chord panel (see number
on Figure 1).
On the left part of the editor you can find the notes of the previous chord (see
number on Figure 1) and
the notes of the current chord (see number
on Figure 1). A prompt
'how to build chord progressions'
is located in the right part of the editor (see number
on Figure 1). Press the
button (see number on
Figure 1) that is located in the bottom left corner of the editor to invoke the
help window. Press the button that is marked with a number
on Figure 1 to play the current
Motive. Press the button that is marked with a number
on Figure 1 to close
the editor. If you want to enable all chords and all the arrangements for the each
chord then press the button 'Reset Chords' (see number
on Figure 1).

Figure 3.
How to choose the chord and its arrangement.
Point the mouse cursor to the bottom part of the chosen Motive. The editor allows
you to insert only one chord for each up-beat. If the type of a Motive is 'Amphibrach'
or 'Iamb' then the selected chord will be inserted in both Motives (see number
on Figure 2). If the
type of a Motive is 'Choree' then the editor allows you to insert one chord in one
Motive. Choose the time for a chord. The chosen time is indicated by the rectangle
(see number on Figure 3). Click
the mouse button and the program displays the Chord Editor. Move the mouse cursor
to the tab of the chord (see number
on Figure 1). Click the mouse
button on the tab. The editor opens the panel that corresponds to the chord (see
number on Figure 1).
The panel contains the rectangles which represent the allowed arrangements of the
chord. Point the mouse cursor to the chosen arrangement of the chord and click the
mouse button. The editor inserts the chosen chord in the chosen arrangement in the
current Motive. At the same time the editor chooses the optimal position of the
bass voice. The editor opens a small panel under the sign of the chosen arrangement
(see number on Figure
1). The panel allows you to select the other positions of the bass voice. The chosen
position of the bass is shown by the small rhombus (see number
on Figure 1). The other available
positions of the bass are shown by the rhombi with the grey background and the smaller
size (see number on Figure
1). Just click the mouse button on the sign that represents the bass position, the
editor inserts the chosen arrangement with the new bass position in the current
Motive. In the left part of the editor you can find the notes of the current chord
and the notes of the previous chord, point the mouse cursor to the notes of the
chosen chord (see numbers
and
on Figure 1), then press
the mouse button to listen the selected chord. Click the mouse button on the button
in the bottom right corner (see number
on Figure 1) to close
the editor.
