I got an Epiphone Les Paul Special II about 8 years ago and I played it in 2 bands and only just recently upgraded to an Epiphone Explorer. But you can get a good Epiphone Les Paul II for about $140 or 150. Mine has held up great and has not needed any repairs or anything. For the money you won't find a better guitar.
